Our Beginning
The Works Wonders story began in Vancouver, 1998. I was a new mother, and challenged by the lack of options available in the marketplace for a restoring, breathable, non-synthetic, locally made cream to help our baby’s very sensitive skin. I was already passionate about growing flowers and herbs for home remedies, concerned for environmentally friendly practices, and just happened to be blessed with a tiny garden!
That was all I needed to start making a soothing “Moisturizing Salve” with the best flowers I knew, calendula and lavender. These flowers worked wonders for our baby! Very soon I realized how versatile the salve was for troubled or dry skin conditions and gently toning and balancing skin oils for improved complexion, soothing irritations and itchiness from dryness, and for so many other practical uses.
After many testimonials from our friends and family crediting the salve as a wonder product, I was compelled to offer it to my local community. So in 2004, Works Wonders Herbal Care Company was born. I have been very humbled by the hundreds of testimonials shared over the years by our loyal customers, who have inspired me to continue to serve in this way.
Farm to Jar and Beyond
I am still committed to providing the highest quality of skin care, with floral ingredients that I now lovingly grow with sustainable and regenerative farming practices at Seal Rock Farm, Gabriola Island, BC.
The products continue to be traditionally hand-crafted in small batches with herbal infusions or alembic-copper-distillations made from our calendula and lavender flowers. Other ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, including pure beeswax from local apiaries who maintain bee-friendly hives as well as from our own bio-dynamic beehives. Only D-alpha tocopherol is used for the Vitamin E content, not synthetic blends, so your skin is safe from harmful preservatives. And of course, you’ll find NO parabens, drying agents, artificial colours, fragrances, or synthetic preservatives.
Currently Works Wonders products include the original salve and lip balms, lanolin body balm, hydrosols for face, body and home care, and dried calendula and lavender flowers in a variety of culinary and crafted options.
