At Works Wonders we are committed to providing consistently high quality local and sustainably grown, not-irradiated ingredients. We’ve expanded to our new farm on Gabriola Island, BC where we continue to grow our flowers which are hand-picked daily through out the summer and are shade dried for optimal quality. Our calendula flowers continue to be grown from proprietary heritage seeds that have been lovingly sustained by our family for three generations. Calendula
Calendula stimulates the metabolism of skin cells making it an excellent wound healer. Its antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties offer excellent protection for all skin types from minor infections and may reduce the intensity of cold-sores. As an anti-inflammatory it is highly effective in caring for eczema, psoriasis, minor wounds, burns, bruises, and chafing. Calendula is rich in vitamin A, CoQ-10, and astringents for smoother toned skin. These antioxidants protect skin cells from free-radical formation, and the effects of exposure to the sun.
Lavender
Lavender is known mostly for its relaxing fragrance, but its oils are also used in skin care for their antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is useful for treating skin ailments such as fungal infections, wounds, burns, sunburns, eczema, acne, insect bites, stings, minor cuts and irritated skin. Our Lavender is individually hand-picked at its peak and not mechanically harvested.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
EVOO is the first cold pressing of olives providing the greatest plant value. When used externally in skin care, olive oil re-hydrates and improves elasticity. With antioxidants including vitamins A, E and poly-phenols and chlorophyll, all known for their ability to postpone aging, and repair skin cell membranes, olive oil offers protection to skin cells from free-radical formation. Olive oil contains squalene which regulates sebum production, reducing the oily appearance of the skin.
Beeswax
Beeswax acts as an emollient and humectant which aides in softening and re-hydrating skin, and preventing moisture loss. With vitamin A which is important for cell regeneration, and it’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, beeswax offers all-round breathable, long-lasting protection when used in skin care.
We use beeswax cappings, the purest wax from the hive. We have always sourced our beeswax through personally selected local beekeepers.
In 2011 we caught the buzz and began beekeeping as well and are proudly sustaining our local hives using bio-dynamic methods.
